Training Your Team

“If I had six hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend the first four hours sharpening the axe.” - Abraham Lincoln

Having the right tools for a job seems like a simple concept, but it is one we often miss when planning and preparing our teams for worship. Giving your team the right tools to arrive fully prepared and on the same page frees them up to be comfortable and creative with the music and, more importantly, gives them the ability to actively engage in worship.

Not only is the axe a tool that needs to be effective, but the thing we use to sharpen that tool must also be effective.

Now, as worship leaders apply this metaphor to an entire worship team, suddenly we’re needing to sharpen 6-10 axes on a weekly basis! This can seem like an impossible task, but with a few resources, getting your team on the same page before they even set foot on stage is simple.

One of the most effective tools is ChartBuilder with RehearsalMix. Each team member can customize their chart with the layout and details that are right for them, and more importantly, rehearse alongside their instruments original part elevated in the recording.

ProPresenter Templates are also a massive resource to not only save time, but ensure your lyrics slides are accurate, consistent, and free from spelling errors. They can even be controlled from Playback using MIDI Production Cues. These cues have been built to match the song perfectly and will follow your song arrangement, even if you spontaneously skip to a new section.

All of these tools pull from the same source, your setlist in Playback, our tracks app for worship. Because of this, you can be sure everyone is referencing the same accurate material and have confidence when you press play for the first time.

By keeping our team on the same page with accurate and efficient resources, we can have more freedom to focus on what matters, and ultimately elevate our team and times of worship.

Those of us called to worship ministry know the value of leading with excellence to the best of our ability.

To once again quote Abraham Lincoln: “Whatever you are, be a good one.”
