Rock City Worship
Rock City Worship is the team of pastors, worship leaders, musicians and songwriters that serve every week at Rock City Church in Columbus, OH. “Jordynne Bently and Nathan Montgomery of Rock City Worship share the stories behind the songs from Glory Fills This Room.
“Kingdom Crowns” is an anthem about perseverance.
1 Cor. 9:24-25 encourages believers to run in such a way to win the prize which is eternal - a “crown that will last forever.” Yet even as we run, we know it is God who ultimately keeps us and completes the work He began in us (Phil. 1:6).
We run not in our own strength. If He has called us, He will not let us go.
How encouraging is this for us as His people?
Especially when we walk through trials like we have seen the last two years with COVID-19. As Christians, we approach each hardship from an ETERNAL perspective trusting that our God is in control.
“Wide Awake” is about rejoicing in the salvation that God offers us and stepping into the ABUNDANT JOY and life that Jesus offers us in Him (John 10:10).
It’s also about remembering the first time that you believed in Jesus and the joy found in that moment in realizing Christ is everything you need.
The heart behind “Glory Fills This Room” comes from Colossians 1:16-17
“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
It is in HIM that we live, move, and have our being (Acts 17:28). We wanted to write a song about this truth: GOD IS SOVEREIGN OVER ALL THINGS and His glory is all around us.
The majority of the lyric and melody for this song actually came while at the grocery store. I was just coming away from a particularly powerful time of personal prayer and worship and was finding myself frustrated that I couldn’t spend all day in God’s presence.
Then it hit me that God’s glory and sovereignty don’t end when I leave the prayer closet.
As a believer, He’s with me even at the grocery store. He holds life itself together. He is so worthy of our worship!
