“This is How I Thank the Lord” is a song about gratitude. It was written right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic when the world was very isolated and the future was so uncertain.
We went away for a few days to write together after not seeing each other for months. This was one of the first songs we wrote, and the message of the song began to shift our mindset. With the world seemingly falling apart, none of us expected that one of the prevailing themes of this song and our new album would be gratitude.
We discovered that maybe gratitude is exactly what we need when life gets really hard, or when it seems like all is in disarray.
Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18:
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances.
Giving thanks in all circumstances is not easy, but Paul recognizes it is necessary in order for us to keep our perspective fixed on Jesus, not getting discouraged or distracted by what is happening around us.
We hope that “This is How I Thank The Lord” becomes a consistent prayer in your life, a place you can turn to remember the power and possibility of gratitude.
